My name is Marciano Arcega Reyes IV. Yes IV. I have a brother who is Marciano Reyes V. It gets confusing when you have 5 Marcianos in a family but we managed to get by. My brother is a Director so he has all the money and is therefore the richer one. All I have is sex appeal. I’ve always wanted to become a professional Basketball player but when I stopped growing, I realized it wasn’t going to happen. So, I went for the next best thing – become a sports writer. I took up Journalism but did not like how my internship turned out. I ended up starting as a copywriter trainee in HDM-DYR Alcantara – the biggest advertising agency … in Vito Cruz. This was in 1988. I handled accounts like Alaska, Granny Goose, adidas (Rubberworldst ) and Irish Spring for Colgate-Palmolive. After 4 ½ years in this agency I left gritty Vito Cruz for glitzy Makati. I started in Ace Saatchi & Saatchi in May of 1992. This was where I became Associate Creative Director and eventually Creative Director handling Toyota, Petron, Jollibee and Red Horse Beer. I stayed here for 10 years before moving to McCann-Erickson where I took the role of Creative Director for the San Miguel Beer Group. I led the team who created work for Pale Pilsen, San Mig Light and Strong Ice Beer. I worked here for 2 ½ years before joining my former Saatchi bosses in their own agency – TBWA Santiago Mangada Puno. I stayed here in TiBWA for almost 15 years as Executive Creative Director for brands like Alaska, Peerless, Nissan, Del Monte, Bench and KFC. Through 32 years in the industry I have won in both local and international awards shows – from the Ad Congress, Kidlat Awards to Adfest. Ad Stars and Spikes. I am also part of the group that holds the record for most number of Best in Creative Awards (9) in the AOY. Aside from being an old school ad man, I am al so a Sneakerhead. I’ve been one long before the term was invented. My collection peaked at 731 pairs. But since I had to move to a smaller place I had to drastically cut down – 301 pairs na lang.
